Deerfield Boy’s Thirds Basketball traveled to face their in-season, inter-state rival, Avon Old Farms. After losing to the Winged Beavers by three points in early January, the Doors had redemption on the mind as they evened the series with a statement win, 39-19. Far from a pretty game, Deerfield overwhelmed the Avon ball-handlers with their aggressive full-court defense, grittiness on the offensive boards, and talk on defense. Nine players found their way into the scorer’s book, with Victor Kibuuka ’26 and Micheal Hioe ’27 leading the way, contributing eight and 7 points respectively. The entire team won the hustle award on the defensive end, turning Avon over 16 times in the contest. Game notes: The Doors won despite missing two important guards, Jadin Smith ’26 and Jack Webb ’27, who will hopefully be ready to go soon. Owen Tymchuk ’26 is still sidelined for the foreseeable future. Deerfield prepares for a rematch at home against Eaglebrook on Wednesday before a mid-season break.
