In an exciting rematch, the JV boys basketball team traveled to Loomis on Wednesday, and they left their mark with an impressive 45-25 victory. Right from the opening tip-off, Deerfield displayed their skills and teamwork. It all began with a beautifully executed play as Mac Hynds tapped the ball to Will Machnik, who seamlessly executed a give-and-go with Brady Read. This swift exchange set the tone, and Deerfield took an early 2-0 lead.

The momentum didn’t stop there; Theo Lewis and Sungmin Ahn followed with three-pointers that extended Deerfield’s lead to 8-0. From that moment on, the Doors were in control, never looking back. Will Machnik was on fire, scoring an incredible 13 consecutive points, including a smooth backdoor layup assisted by Cooper Johnson. These plays allowed Deerfield to build an impressive 25-8 lead.

The first half ended on a high note with Mac Hynds swishing a three-pointer after a display of 40 seconds of fast-paced, unselfish ball movement. The scoreboard read 28-8 in favor of Deerfield at halftime.

Loomis put up a spirited fight in the second half, matching Deerfield’s scoring pace. However, Deerfield continued to excel in rebounding and defense, with standout performances from Tucker Gongaware, Hynds, and Johnson. Marty Liu contributed with two beautiful backdoor bounce pass assists to Ahn and Johnson on consecutive plays, further extending the lead to 42-21.

The game’s final basket was a memorable moment, as Mac Hynds executed a twirling right-handed layup, securing his first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Will Machnik led all scorers with an impressive 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Theo Lewis and Sungmin Ahn also made valuable contributions, each finishing with 5 points.
