Deerfield hosted a quad meet against Choate, Hotchkiss, and Exeter today. The home crowd came out to support and see a great day of wrestling with some really strong individual performances.
Exeter came out stronger than at our last meeting with consistent solid wrestling. Both teams wrestled well, but Exeter had a healthier roster and more experience at a few weights. Hotchkiss brought a strong but very thin roster. The matches we did play were well-matched with more going the distance to decisions than we typically see in our meets.
An extremely close meet with Choate was exciting and dramatic. Deerfield earned early wins and forfeits to build a strong lead, and Choate’s lower weight classes made up a lot of ground in the second half. The competition was marred by an unfortunate Deerfield DQ in a match we were winning, which likely cost Deerfield the team win.
Spectacular performance on the day from Nathan Blaya and Shogo O’Connor with three wins each.
