On Wednesday, the Big Green girls varsity soccer team kicked off against Westminster School on Jamie Kapteyn field in front of a supportive fan base and under beautiful fall sunshine. The Doors competed hard for the full 80 minutes of play, showing great growth from the week prior. Ultimately, the visiting Martlets converted two penalty kicks, one in each half, to earn the 2-0 victory. The Big Green proudly did not allow any goals against in the run of play against the 2022 NEPSAC Class A Finalist Martlets. The Big Green’s stellar and united team defense was anchored by defenders Avery Izzo ’24, Mia Goetzke ’24, Keira Austen ’26 and goalkeeper Ellie Schiller ’25. The midfielders worked tirelessly on both defense and offense to spark the Big Green attack. The collective team defense supported great moments of transition and counterattacks for the Big Green with Alex Hermsdorf ’25, Kaelin Creagh ’24 and Harlowe Healey ’24 each getting opportunities at goal. Despite the outcome, it was a great collective effort on both sides of the ball for the Big Green – the bar has been raised! The squad will hit the road this Saturday, 9/23 for the team’s first away game of the season against Kimball Union Academy.
