Deerfield hit the road today for their first away match of the season and traveled to Suffield to play a very talented , well-coached, and physical Tigers squad. Building off the momentum from their big win against Salisbury, Deerfield started quickly and dominated chances and possession in the opening 25 minutes of the match. Big Green used some excellent possessional and combination play to open up some quality scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, Deerfield couldn’t find the back of the net and the game remained scoreless until Suffield buried a chance resulting from a well-constructed attack down the flank and a cutback ball from the endline. Suffield took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The second half was wide open and both sides created some quality scoring chances. Ultimately, Suffield’s talent and physicality won the day and the game finished 1-0 in favor of the home team. Deerfield put forth an excellent effort, but ultimately came up just short. Stevie Walsh, Barack Mwesigwa, Jeffry Kamil, Gavin Rigney, and Zach Li all logged huge minutes and helped to keep Big Green within striking distance.
Up next, Deerfield returns home to face off against a tough and well-coached Brunswick squad.
