Deerfield cross country had a great start to the season when they hosted the Brush Invitational this past weekend. It’s always a wonderful event, and we thank Mr. Brush for his continued support of the programme (and all the delicious apples he brings from Clarkdale!). All of our runners performed well, with Lillian Auth ’24 coming second overall in the 5k, and Taylor Wilburn ’27, Skye Georgiadis ’25, and Nicole Lefavour ’27 all coming in the top 8 in their first ever race for DA. DA also had a strong showing in the 3k, with DA taking up five of the top ten spots. It was fun to see returning runners back out on the course and to have so many new runners out there right alongside them, and we’re excited about the rest of the season!
The cross country Door of the Week is Tene Ouedraogo for not only being the best manager we could hope for, but also demonstrating kindness, empathy and compassion during our first meet this past weekend. At the Brush Invitational, Tene made sure that every single runner felt supported, whether by making them a poster, wishing them luck and telling them she believed in them, or even running alongside them with a steady stream of positive remarks to encourage them through to the end. We are extremely proud of her, and grateful to have her on our team.
