On a warm but windy spring day, Deerfield’s Track & Field team traveled to New Hampshire to compete against Exeter and Northfield Mount Hermon. Knowing that Exeter would be their strongest competition at the next week’s league championship, Deerfield came into the meet ready to fight for every point they could get.
The team fared poorly in Track events, scoring in both hurdles and each distance event, but not placing well in the short sprints or relays. Fortunately, the Field athletes came up with a huge performance – led in particular by Chandler Dicks, Barack Mwesigwa, Chigozie Oge-Evans, Alex Volkman, CJ Williams, Brady Stahelski, Songa Rwamucyo, and Jarvis Shema, Deerfield’s Field athletes scored just enough points to keep their two-season winning streak alive and defeat Exeter by a single point.
With the slimmest of cushions, Deerfield will head into the NEPSTA Championship next week at Andover hoping for a healthy and productive meet.
