On April 8th, the Ultimate team took the field against a scrappy Eaglebrook team. It was a beautiful day for Ultimate, with light but variable wind and 50 degree weather that was great to play in! Even down a few players, the team started out strong, scoring a point in the first minute with strong movement and dedication to a new offensive strategy. The defense put pressure on the Eaglebrook handlers and soon Deerfield found itself leading 8-1 at the halfway mark. In the first half there were several exceptional plays, including a layout in the endzone by Kass Giffords, great defensive awareness to gain posession by Elena Tskhvitaria, and Sammy Sullivan scoring the first three points in the half!
Coaches were impressed with the execution of a new offensive structure, creating good movement and fast points. Our zone defense led to turnovers and generated many offensive chances. We could see how players have begun to learn their positions! Shoutouts to Lily Lin for playing great defense, Alejandro Simon for being steady with the disc in his hands, and Jeff Wang for his lockdown defense in the deep position. Additional shoutouts to Vivian Gonzalez for keeping stats and to the many, many Deerfield students, families, and faculty for coming out to support us! Deerfield Ultimate is on a roll at 2-0 with two strong performances. We hope to continue that momentum at home on Wednesday against Westminster.
