The long trip to Exeter yielded positive results for the Deerfield girls as they accomplished a determined comeback from a slow start. Exeter took courts two and three in doubles, as Avery Brooker, Linnea Dreslin, Alex Kelsey, and Giorgia Santore could never find their footing against two disciplined and aggressive teams from Exeter. Court one was a different story as Natalia Sanders and Liv Waterfall took control of their match earlier and never relented.
Singles was full of drama, as half of the matches split sets and were decided by match tie-breakers. Despite the close contests, Deerfield came away with a victory on every court. The top-end of the ladder were able to finish in straight sets as Natalia and Liv were able to work their match strategies into wins with a balance of patience and aggression. Avery played a grueling defensive struggle and finally outlasted her open with sheer determination and grit. Linnea and Alex dropped their first sets, then rallied to win the second and close out the tie-breaker. Giorgia had a difficult test against a crafty opponent but was able to find her pace and come away with a solid victory. Overall, the team played well despite the long drive and blustery conditions. We are all looking forward to our most challenging sequence of matches as we welcome Andover on Wednesday and travel to Hotchkiss on Saturday.
