Girls Varsity Hockey played a good game on the road against Cushing on Wednesday, eventually falling 5-4. Playing with a very short bench due to illness and injury, the Big Green out-shot the hosts and showed a lot of grit and resilience in digging out from a big deficit. After Cushing opened the scoring, Bailey Miller ’24 found the equalizer off of a nice shot from the point (assists to Sam Olander ’23 and Izzy Cericola ’24). We gave up the next four goals, unfortunately, but started a big comeback a few minutes into the third period. Brady Wierl ’26 scored a nice goal off of a great play from Lauryn Broecker ’23 and Gia Thompson ’26, and then Thompson got a goal of her own (assists to Kaley MacDonald ’23 and Cal Ferraris ’23). Ferraris pulled us within one (assists to Ava Giroux ’26 and MacDonald ’23), but we ran out of time to complete the turnaround. Shout out to our four defense (MacDonald, Keira Austen ’26, Miller and CC Deslauriers ’23) who played hard and strong all afternoon long, as well as to Giroux and Thompson for admirably stepping into a new role. Brady Wierl earned the hard hat, but the whole team played with a lot of heart today. Next up is a home game against Pomfret on Friday.
