On Saturday afternoon, Deerfield Girls Hockey skated away with their third win, and third shut out, in a row against Berkshire at home. We didn’t play a great first period, and the opening frame ended on a very tough note after a serious injury to one of our players. After a long delay, the team rebounded nicely, scoring three goals in the second period, all off of rebounds in front. Peyton Wierl ’26 opened the scoring (assists to Cal Ferraris ’23 and Keira Austen ’26), and then Brady Wierl ’26 scored on the power play (assists to CC Deslauriers ’23 and Gia Thompson ’26). Ferraris then got a well-deserved goal of her own, finishing off a play from P. Wierl and Deslauriers. We got one more power play goal in the third, with Deslauriers finding the rebound of a Kaley MacDonald ’23 blast (Thompson earned the secondary assist). Lauren Sobczak ’24 got the win, and the hard hat, in goal, and everyone played with a good deal of heart and hustle, especially in the final two periods. Special thanks to all the fans who supported us today, and to our awesome athletic training staff for their quick response on the ice. Next up is a road contest against Cushing on Wednesday.
