The boys JV hockey team hosted Williston on Saturday. This would be the second game of the season between these team. Deerfield won the first game back in January by a 9-0 score, but for this game they encountered a much improved and deeper Williston squad. The result today was a 7-1 win for Big Green with the game being closer than the score indicated.
The first period saw both teams ready to play. It wasn’t until the 11:03 Mark when Jack Welch scored a nicely set up goal with assists going to Matteo Alvarez and Owen Fleck. The first period would end at 1-0.
The second period was all Deerfield as the hosts got their offense in motion. The team scored three times in the middle stanza upping their lead to 4-0. Goals came from the top two lines with Jack Welch getting two more for the hat trick and Alexander Rolfe added one with an assist going to team mate Alexander Sotirhos. Matteo Alvarez, Cooper Brozek, Owen Fleck and Ben Gisonni picked up assists on the Welch pair of goals. Goalie Will Scharfenberger was doing his part keeping Williston off the scoreboard with several key saves.
The third period started out like the second with Deerfield getting to quick goals. Jack Welch scored his fourth on the day with assists going to Tripp Woytowicz and Cooper Brozek. Minutes later Alex Sotirhos scored on a tip off a shot from defenseman Carson Belaire.
With the score 6-0 Williston finally broke through with a score. Then Matteo Alvarez scored his goal making the score 7-1. This contest saw too many penalties by the home team. This is something we can be better at for sure!
In the final week on the season the team travels to NMH on Wednesday and returns home on Saturday for a 1:00 game with Westminster.
