Hockey (Boys): Junior Varsity vs. Westminster School (02/25/23 1:00 PM)

Event Details

The boys JV hockey team hosted rival Westminster School on Saturday to close out the 2022-2023 season. Coming into the game the Big Green had posted a 12-2-1 record on the season and was hoping to send their senior class off with a big win against an always strong Westminster squad. Senior goaltender Will Scharfenberger was scheduled to get the start for his last game wearing the hockey green, but an injury at Wednesday’s game sidelined him giving sophomore Nick Gerard the start to close out the season. Nick brought his “A” game and shut our opponents out through the first two periods helping his team build to an insurmountable 5-0 after two periods.

Jack Welch had another stellar offensive day scoring 4 goals on the day (10 goals in his last three games!) while his linemates Matteo Alvarez and Cooper Brozek piled up multiple assists. This line was buzzing all game and helped set a tone that never allowed Westminster to get their engine revved, Cooper Brozek, Alexander Sotirhos, and Leo Ma would all contribute a goal apiece as Big Green got excellent offensive output from their top three lines. Credit too goes to the line of Crosbie, Johnson, and Rorick for their consistent play on the day. They too created some scoring chances that could have bumped the score higher.

Today, we outplayed our opponent and lots of the credit can go to the defensive group we’ve had all year. Today, seniors Carson Belaire and Ben Gisonni led with their play and leadership. Tripp Woytowicz, Rob Callender, Owen Fleck and Alistair Hunt all had excellent games. Add in the excellent goaltending from Nick and this becomes a pretty good team! Today we led from start to finish; 2-0 after the 1st period, 5-0 after two and eventually pulling out a convincing 7-2 margin of victory.

The team would like to thank the seniors, both active and non-active/injured: Ben Gisonni, Carson Belaire, Will Scharfenberger, Felix Rockefeller, and Jack Gammage for their commitment to JV hockey and for making the experience fun for those other members on the team. You are competitors and you’ve helped shape a successful season and team culture with boys jv hockey.

The team would also like to thank our superb managers; Sophia Sotirhos and Devon Chase. We have known all season that we had the best support staff of any team we play!
