We finished our season in triumphant style today, beating Choate 1-0 at home on Choate Day. Game time was 10:30am in bright sunshine and temps in the mid-40s. Both teams dispossessed the other better than they linked up passes, but we managed to finish a classic sequence in the first half that stood as the game winner. Midfielder Jack Borg (’27) sent a through ball to right winger Tai Feng (’26) who took a touch toward the near post and sent a cut-back cross across the goal mouth where a streaking Bryan Gianvecchio (’26) redirected the ball to the left panel with excellent control. In the second half, Chaote worked hard to possess and brought more pressure to our backs. In a dramatic sequence, their attacker drove the left post, pulled our keeper Joe Berman (’25) from his line, and then struck the near post with a shot that looked like it would go in. Moments later, another attacker hit the crossbar from distance. The game ended when we cleared a dangerous corner kick bouncing around in front of our net. When the whistle blew, the team swarmed keeper Joe Berman (’25) in jubilation and relief. Once again with a shallow bench and a mid-game injury, we asked several players to run the play the full 80 minutes: Joe Berman (’25), Jack Borg (’27), Andrew Lewis (’25), Oscar Sanford (’26), Sungmin Ahn (’26), Finn Knight (’25), MacGregor Hynds (’25), and Ari Santos (’25). We played with great balance and poise today, using our heads to clear danger, and generally outworking Choate in the pressure moments. We also displayed impeccable sportsmanship with emotions running hot. Coach Corliss and I are extremely proud of the way this team rallied to finish the season in triumph, as gentlemen, and as a passionate team. A special shout out to our seniors: Captain Matteo Stewart, Jason Bannerman, Caleb McDaniel, and Kevin Gonzalez. So much of our success is attributable to their leadership and positivity over several years. Thanks to our fans too!
