On Saturday, Deerfield varsity volleyball traveled to New Haven, CT to face Hopkins School in the last of a long stretch of away matches. The first set was characterized by great all-around team play, led by the defense of Sabina Frosk ’24, Loran McGruder ’24, and Emily Rice ’24. Minimal errors gave Hopkins no room and ended with a 25-17 score for Deerfield.
In the second set, the Hilltopper found their rhythm and a few errors on the Deerfield side resulted in a back-and-forth game. Deerfield managed to hang on in a close 25-23 victory.
DA came out strong in the third set with an 8-2 serving run from McGruder and Sophie Kamil ’26. Hopkins made one final push, but net play from Harmoni Dobbins ’26 finished the game with a couple big hits and timely blocks. Deerfield took the third set 25-22.
We (finally!) have our home opener on Wednesday when we host Hotchkiss. First serve at 3:30pm. We hope to see lots of fans there.
