The Deerfield Girls Varsity Soccer played a Saturday night game under the lights of Guzzo Field at St. Paul’s School under a steady mist of rain. The slick field conditions led to a lot of unpredictable moments, and the SPS student section was strong, but Deerfield held steady throughout. Although St. Paul’s went up 1-0 after a scramble in the box, Deerfield answered back to tie the game before halftime. Battling to win a service in from a corner, Avery Izzo earned a PK. Kaelin Creagh converted with composure. In the second half, it was a clash of two styles as Deerfield looked to possess and create a rhythm of play while St. Paul’s played direct and took long-range shots, which Goalkeeper Brooke Stroh handled with ease. The Deerfield defense made several stops and played beautifully through the midfield. Deerfield had several good looks from Creagh, Alex Hermsdorf, and Claire Kepner. It was when Creagh took the ball endline and played a driven cross to a slashing run from Anna Dyjach that the Doors took the lead 2-1 for the victory!
