Deerfield made their third long trip of the week when they travelled up to St. Paul’s to play a very well-coached and tough Big Red squad. Deerfield was looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Berkshire on Wednesday, but Big Green got off to a sluggish start. Much of the first half was quite choppy, with both sides generating some decent chances. Deerfield broke through a few times, but missed the net and fell victim to a great save by the St. Paul’s keeper. The first half would end 0-0. The second half saw much of the same, but Deerfield would settle down a bit and play their game. The match would remain scoreless until about the 60th minute when Deerfield won a free kick at about midfield. Cooper Johnson played a beautiful ball in to the box where Jadin Smith won the ball in the air and redirected to Owen Tymchuk who buried it home for the 1-0 Deerfield lead. That proved to be enough as the Deerfield back line along with Kai Darrell in net continued to play tough. Deerfield will look to keep it going against a tough Westminster squad on Wednesday.
