On October 25th, a somnambulant team of boys junior B footballers coming off Fall Break were lucky to get a result, beating Suffield Academy 1-0 in a very evenly matched game on the lower fields. Keeper Arvin Mou ’25 earned his third clean sheet of the season, while Vail Brokaw ’27 provided the late offensive heroics to raise the team’s record on the season to 6-0. The 1st half ended scoreless, but both teams had several good chances. The keepers and back line of both teams played well, making several saves and clearing the ball from their zones. In the 48th minute, it appeared that Suffield had finally gotten an advantage, earning a penalty kick after a foul in the box. Mou came up big, however, turning away the kick and keeping the score level. Deerfield had several good chances after that, but the goal frame conspired to somehow keep all the shots out. In the 61st minute, Brokaw sent a seemingly harmless shot directly at the Suffield keeper, but after making the initial save, he bobbled it and it found its way into the back of the net to finally break the tie. Deerfield were then able to hold off the Suffield attack for the last few minutes to come away with a lucky win. Quad Squad is back in action on the lower fields on October 28th, with a 1:30 pm start against Andover.
