It was a tale of two halves for the boys junior B footballers on an unseasonably warm October afternoon against Andover. After a fairly even stalemate in the 1st half, the 2nd half featured most of the action in a controversial 1-1 draw. The teams were evenly matched and, although both had a few chances, no one was able to find the back of the net in the 1st half. Immediately after the half-time break, however, Deerfield grabbed the lead on a scramble in front of the net from a corner kick. Emmet Aho ’27 was able to finally poke the ball home from inside the 6-yard box in the 37th minute to give the home team a 1-0 lead. In the 51st minute, an Andover player was fouled near the penalty area and instead of a free kick, a penalty was awarded instead. The PK was converted to even the match at 1-1. Shortly after that, in the 53rd minute, keeper Arvin Mou ’25 made a key save (one of many on the day) to keep the score level. Deerfield continued to press forward and appeared poised to take the lead in the 59th minute, but a good opportunity was just barely cleared off the line by an Andover defender. In the 60th minute, defender Rowan Dias ’27 was given a yellow card for a particularly hard foul, but thankfully that incident didn’t affect the outcome of the game. Neither team had a good opportunity in the last 10 minutes after expending maximum effort on a very hot day and the match ended as a 1-1 draw. While it was a disappointing outcome, considering all of the chances that Deerfield had, Quad Squad still has yet to lose this season, with their record standing at 6-1-0 with two games left. They’ll be back in action on November 1st, with the last road game of the season against local rival Bement, at 3 pm.
