After years of coming up short against a skilled Andover JV team, the Deerfield JV Field Hockey team finally managed to come out on top this Saturday, winning 4-0! For the first time this season, our keepers, defense, midfield, and forwards all saw true competitive action, and each player rose to the challenge. The first quarter was scrappy and scoreless, but after a brief moment of team reflection at the break, Deerfield came back in the second quarter with speed, intensity, and organization. Linnea Dreslin ‘24 had the first goal of the game two minutes into the quarter, assisted by Emily Bruno ‘25. Next, Lexi Rohan ‘25 had an unassisted goal. This lead was all the momentum we needed. In the second half, we snuck in two more goals, the third off of a big drive by Lila Church ‘25, and the fourth again from Rohan. Keepers Sarah Hanks ‘25 and Juliet Amadeo ‘24 rarely see action in our games, but came ready to play nonetheless. We’re lucky they did! Both had big saves in their respective halves, holding Andover scoreless through the game. Players Josephine Cramer ‘24, Linnea Knox ‘27, and Esther Lee ‘25 had particularly stellar games on defense. Cramer’s leadership and stamina helped to guide the defense out of a number of sticky situations. Lee was impassable as a sweeper, batting the ball off of the goal line herself on a number of occasions. Knox had excellent hustle all through the game and took a number of stellar drives from the center of the field. We are so proud of our play yesterday; we fought as a team and won as a team! We have a long break now and are back playing against Williston, Wednesday 11/8.
