On Wednesday, October 11th, the boys junior B footballers played a historic match, the first one in many years (if ever) against local rival Northfield Mount Hermon School on the road in Gill. Jack Keller ’26 scored a brace and Arvin Mou ’25 recorded his first clean sheet of the season to lead the team to a 4-0 win, raising the record to 3-0 on the season. It was a particularly satisfying win, considering that the last several games had been canceled due to weather-related reasons and the team hadn’t had a game since September 27th. Showing no signs of being rusty after a long layoff, Keller opened the scoring in the 6th minute to give Deerfield a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, he doubled the lead in the 16th minute on a goal that initially appeared to hit the side netting, but somehow found its way into the goal. NMH found their footing during the last 20 minutes of the half, stringing together numerous passes and threatening the Deerfield goal, but weren’t able to put one past Mou. The play was even again in the 2nd half before Vail Brokaw ’27 found Matias Cushman ’25 open in front of the net and Cushman slotted it home with a nice finish to increase the lead to 3-0 in the 44th minute. Once again, NMH pushed forward and found some space, but weren’t able to cut into the lead. In the 66th minute, stopper Teddy Gonzalez ’26 intercepted a pass on his own side of the field, wove his way through several defenders, and scored his first goal of the season to end the scoring at 4-0. Quad Squad will be back on the road for the second to last game away from home, with a 3:30 pm start at Avon Old Farms on October 18th.
