On Wednesday the boys J.V. hockey team travelled to nearby Easthampton Ma. to take on the Wildcats of Williston. Will Scharfenberger got the start for Deerfield in the goal and he was tested a few times in the beginning of the game. His solid play gave the Big Green their second shutout of the week, this time by a margin of 9-0. Will was given the game puck on the day.
Every team member got lots of ice time today and the scoring was spread out among several players. Jack Welch and Alexander Rolfe led all scorers with 2 goals each. Other goal scores on the day were Ben Gisonni, Cooper Brozek, Matteo Alverez, Alex Sotirhos, and Felix Rockefeller.
The team now heads into the heart of their season with four tough opponents lined up before the long winter weekend. Choate, Cushing Varsity “B”, Hotchkiss and Cardigan Mountain will challenge this group in the next several outings. First up for the Big Green is a rematch with rival Choate. The first time these two teams met the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Puck drop is 1:00 p.m. this Saturday.
