Once again, The boys JV hockey team travelled to play a game on a Saturday. This time we’d be going to Lakeville, Ct. to take on the Bearcats of Hotchkiss School. This has always been a good contests between schools so the team was prepared to skate hard on the afternoon. Nick Gerard was given the nod to start the game in the net and he played his usual solid game allowing no Hotchkiss goals until the final minutes of the game. This factor, combined with some good offensive combinations on the afternoon led to a 6-1 victory for the Big Green.
Scoring for Deerfield on the day was jack Welch (2), Ben Gisonni, Rob Calender, Alexander Rolfe, and Cooper Brozek. Alexander Sotirhos and Matteo Alverez each had two assists on the day while Cooper, Tripp Woytowicz and Owen Fleck received assists as well. From the onset of the game Deerfield controlled the pace of the game. Several of the Hotchkiss players were either called up to varsity or were sick/injured that day. Nevertheless, our team played hard and with discipline.
The team arrived back on campus just in time to watch the varsity team rally for two goals in the third period to slip past the talented Hotchkiss varsity by a score of 2-1. A good day overall for the boys hockey at Deerfield! Next up will be Cardigan Mountain at home this coming Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
