Deerfield JV Girls lost to Worcester Academy 26-40. The teams started out well matched and there was a lot of back and forth on the court. It was a low-scoring first half with Deerfield ahead 13-12 after the 2nd quarter. Eleanor duPont ’26 dropped a bucket and a free throw basket. Jasmine Irizarry ‘23 put in three shots and helped get the momentum going. The 3rd quarter saw us falling behind with only one basket (Giorgia Santore ’24) to WA’s five. Fiona Van Nuys ’25 stepped up with several key rebounds and kept up a strong defense during the second half. Fiona also put in 2 more baskets in the 4th quarter. Sally Rolland ’23 showed steady intelligence on the court. She put in both free throws as well as a basket. Penley Day ’25 also cooly dropped a free throw. We put up 11 points in the 4th quarter, but WA put up 18 including 3 three-pointers to pull ahead. Next, we play Taft at home on Wednesday.
