The boys earned a thrilling win at Cushing this Wednesday. The game was close the entire way with neither team really able to get a firm grip on the lead. We were up 24 – 21 at half, which matched our biggest lead of the half. Momentum seemed to swing our way early in the second half, but Cushing fought back through the middle of the second half and we found ourselves down 34 – 39 with 3 minutes to go. With a combination of tenacious defense, aggressive offense and a little good fortune, we were able to hold them to just one made free throw in those last three minutes as we pulled ahead and hung on for a 41 – 40 victory. Tucker Gongaware ‘26 led our scoring with 11 points as he continued his strong play of late. Justin Ahn and Ephraim Tutu, (8 and 6 points respectively) both ‘24, led our defense and controlled the pace of play. Tyler Long played big all game and came up with perhaps the rebound/play of the game with about 20 seconds left. Victor Kibuuka made his first start of the year and played very well on both sides of the ball. Jaydon Hierro Komarnick ‘26 made his first points of the year and played his best game of the season. Matthew Stultz ‘25 also got his first bucket of the year with a nice three point shot in the second half. And finally, Arvin Mou ‘25 really impressed as he came up with 3 really nice offensive boards in one 3 minute run. In short, everyone played and everyone contributed! It was nice to get a win, but it’s even better that everyone continues to improve and we continue to grow together as a team.
