Deerfield beat NMH 48-47 in the first home game of the year. The Doors were down 21-27 at halftime but stormed back on an 18-0 run, led by fantastic defense by Will Machnik and Theo Lewis. NMH fought back to take a 3-point lead late and the game entered the final minute with NMH leading 47-45. With 37 seconds left in the game, Jeff Wang hit Machnik at the top of the key who drove quickly, drawing an extra defender, and then kicked the ball to Lewis on the left wing. Lewis swished the three-pointer, giving Deerfield a 48-47 lead which would—thanks to stalwart defending—end up as the final score. Machnik finished the game with a team-high 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and Theo Lewis scored 8. Brady Read and Wang each contributed 6 points to the effort. The Doors look to build on this win this Saturday at Worcester Academy.
