On Saturday, the girls varsity soccer team returned home to Jamie Kapteyn field to host Kimball Union Academy. The Big Green opened the score line in the first four minutes of the game to gain a 1-0 early lead. The Doors added five more goals in the second half of play and shut out the visitors on route to a 6-0 victory, the team’s first win of the season.
In the opening minutes, Big Green defense collected a through ball that they played wide to Jasmine Irizarry ’23. The ball was played to Kaelin Creagh ’24 racing down the sideline. Kaelin crossed the ball in the box that Alex Hermsdorf ’25 finished for her first goal of the season.
The Big Green registered their second goal of the game when Kaelin beat her defender 1v1 and made her way into the 18 and flighted the ball over the KUA goalkeeper to double the Big Green lead to 2-0.
Shortly thereafter, Alex netted her second goal of the game slipping in behind the KUA defense on a through ball from Kaelin. The Big Green were awarded a penalty kick in 24th minute of play that Kaelin netted for the Big Green.
Alex registered her third goal of the goal by beating her defender 1v1 on the flank and slipped the ball past the goalkeeper.
Jasmine netted the team’s sixth and final goal of the game when she intercepted a clearance from the KUA defense that she directed with a shot on goal that sailed over the goalkeeper.
The backline was anchored by Avery Izzo ’24, Mia Goetzke ’24, Mary Lee ’23 and Sam Olander ’23. In goal Ellie Schiller ’25 and Abigail Ng ’25 earned the shut out for the Big Green.
The Doors will look to carry their momentum from Saturday’s victory into their game this Wednesday, September 28 at Taft.
