Deerfield dropped the season opener to Lawrenceville by a score of 47-27. Deerfield looked good at the start holding Lawrenceville to a 3 and out on the first possession of the game and then went on a 15 play scoring drive that ended with a 26 yard TD pass from QB Cole Geer to WR Brady Stahelski. From there, Lawrenceville dominated the rest of the game, capitalizing on three 1st half Deerfield turnovers which led to three Lawrenceville touchdowns. Sophomore Cole Geer had a strong 1st start at QB and WR Ty Curran led the team in catches. On defense, DE Chigozie Oge-Evans had 2 sacks and a forced fumble and OLB James Fealy had the first interception of the year for the Big Green. Deerfield looks to bounce back at home next week against visiting Williston Northampton School.
