On Saturday afternoon, Deerfield field hockey played Hotchkiss on Rowland Turf. It was a beautiful fall afternoon and both teams came down to the field ready to play. Within three minutes of the start, goals had been netted by both teams. Deerfield’s Sage Piekarski ’23 scored first. Within two minutes the goal was answered by Hotchkiss’s offense. Charlotte Iler ‘23 found the back of the net, though, six minutes later and put the Deerfield team ahead once more. Sage solidified our lead with her second goal and Deerfield’s Kate MacKenzie ’24 was able to capitalize on a corner play during the second quarter to increase Deerfield’s lead by three before the half. Great leadership on the field and strong support in the midfield and defensive end during the second half allowed the score differential to increase. Ella Davies ’24 scored after a penalty stroke was awarded, and Sage Piekarski scored twice more. Hotchkiss was able to find the net once more in the fourth quarter, but the final score remained 7 – 2.
