At our first game of the 2022 season, Deerfield’s JV Field Hockey team made the long trip out to Berkshire worth it, with a 3-0 victory. Ten minutes into the first half, Lila King ‘24 scored the game opener from an assist by Emily Bruno ‘25. After a battle in the midfield and a carry up the wing by Charlotte Steffensen ‘25, Campbell Ardrey ‘26 had another goal with seven minutes left to half time. Deerfield went into the second half determined to further their 2-0 lead. With the help of a solid defense, held down by Josephine Cramer ‘24, Edie Huffard ‘25, Sophie Petronzio ‘25, Penley Day ‘25 and goalies Juliet Amadeo ‘24 and Ashley LaBrucherie ‘23, Deerfield held the line until the final thirty seconds of the game, at which point King secured the DA lead with a third goal, assisted by Ardrey and offensive wing Lila Church ‘25. While we were thrilled to walk away from our first game with a win, we were even more excited by the team’s spirit, positivity, and sportsmanship. We hope to see similar energy at our next game against Hotchkiss on Saturday 9/24.
