The fair weather that graced the start of the Deerfield harrier’s competitive season reflected the fine results from this year’s stalwart group of serious runners. Fifteen Doors competed in the three-kilometer event, led by a determined effort from Aiden Van Epps ’25. Gus Mallory ’26, Martin Liu ’26, Isaac Bakare ’24, Cooper Brozek ’26, Jack Brennan ’25, John Woo ’26, Gabe Yu ’23, and Tyler Long ’26 each represented the Big Green for the first time, and they did so with aplomb. In the subsequent event, seven Deerfield runners scampered around the five-kilometer course. The first Deerfield harrier across the line was Carson Bynum ’23, who was followed closely by J.T. Gally ’26 wearing his first Green and White uniform. Overall the day marked a clear step forward in program depth, with more runners posting faster individual results than the coaches have seen in recent memory. Next week, most of the team will run a mile time trial while seven runners will travel to a far corner of Connecticut to face some league rivals such as the Hotchkiss Bearcats and the Loomis Pelicans in the Canterbury Invitational.
