Deerfield’s Varsity Girls Tennis Wraps Regular Season with Second Consecutive Sweep
The varsity tennis team took the trip south to Wallingford, CT to take on Choate on Saturday. The temperatures hovered around the upper 70s, and the sky was overcast for this contest. With the New England Championships glimmering on the horizon, the team was focused on putting a bow on the regular season first.
First and third doubles won their matches comfortably with smart, steady play. Second doubles had a tougher task on their hands. Sanders and Waterfall held then broke their opponents’ serve late to clinch an 8-6 win.
Deerfield continued to roll at singles. Hunter Pulliam put together her most complete singles match of the season, scarcely dropping any points on her way to a straight sets win. Congratulations to Daphne Gavros on finishing her season undefeated at 5 singles. Natalia Sanders played an immensely close first set and edged her Choate opponent in a tie break.
The team will take the week to prepare for the NEPSAC postseason tournament, with seeding announced on Wednesday, May 18th. The quarterfinal matches will take place on Saturday morning at a location to be determined.
After another fun and successful season, I’d like to thank the players and managers for all their hard work. I’m proud to report that every member of this lineup started and won for Deerfield this season.
