The Girls JV Tennis team fell to Longmeadow’s Varsity squad in the final match of the season. Although the squad was disappointed to end their stellar season with a loss, they played outstanding tennis (and their spirits were buoyed by the ice cream shop across the street from Longmeadow’s courts).
At singles, Juliet Amadeo and Abigail Ng both battled valiantly but were outmatched by the hard-hitting opposition. Jing Wang pulled out an 8-3 win at the #4 spot, capping the season with an emphatic upset. Kate MacKenzie played the longest and toughest match of the day: she took Longmeadow’s outstanding #1 player to an 8-8 tie, ultimately losing by three close points in the breaker.
At doubles, Deerfield again fought hard; the #2 and #3 teams ultimately fell prey to Longmeadow’s excellent net-play. At #1, Giorgia Santore and Nainika Lebaka were able to notch one last win—8-6—to end the season on a high-note.
