Tennis (Girls): Varsity vs. Westminster School (4/13/22 3:30 PM)

Event Details

The long-awaited spring weather arrived Wednesday afternoon, and Deerfield’s varsity girls tennis team was more than ready to compete and have fun in the sunshine with visiting Westminster in town.

Doubles play helped Deerfield jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first hour of play. The most competitive match came at second doubles. Westminster’s pair put up a great fight with penetrating baseline play and confident volleys at the net. Deerfield’s tandem of Sanders and Waterfall remained composed and resilient. The pair took advantage of mid-court openings and alleys to find winners when they had the chance. Ultimately, Deerfield pulled out the win 8-5.

Deerfield continued rolling in singles play. Congratulations to Avery Brooker on her first career singles win! Avery earned this point for Deerfield at the five spot after a marathon afternoon on the court. The team was grateful to add senior Daphne Gavros back to the lineup. Daphne put together a methodical fourth singles match, clinching the win for Big Green.

The team turns its attention to a Saturday afternoon tilt with the Taft School in Watertown, CT.
