Deerfield Defeats Hotchkiss at Home

The Varsity Girls Tennis team was back on the courts this weekend for a Saturday afternoon tilt with visiting Hotchkiss. The last time these teams met was the 2019 NEPSAC semifinal. It’s remarkable to think that only current seniors were on the team at the time. Time flies. The weather turned in our favor at last with sun and temperatures in the sixties.

Deerfield set a dominant tone from jump street with convincing wins at all three doubles positions. Third doubles pairing, Gavros and Brooker, put together their most complete match of the year cruising to an 8-1 victory. More smart doubles delivered wins at the top two positions. Sanders and Waterfall continued to develop chemistry, moving and communicating like a veteran duo.

After catching their breath, the girls in green found success across the singles ladder. Natalia Sanders played with poise and smarts to best her Hotchkiss opponent in straight sets. Hunter Pulliam played to her strengths and captured a comfortable win. Avery Brooker logged her most decisive victory of the year at six singles. Daphne Gavros won a marathon, back-and-forth affair at five.

The team looks ahead to a home match with Hoosac on Wednesday.
