The Girls JV tennis team opened the season with a 4-3 home victory over a tough, competitive Westminster squad. At singles, Kate MacKenzie and Abby Morsman dominated in the 1 and 2 spots. Kate battled through a very tight first set (6-6) and closed out the tie-breaker at 8-6; she then cruised to a 6-1 win in the second set. Abby brought both consistency and power to the court, and won her match handily: 6-2, 6-1. In the 3 and 4 spots, Abigail Ng and Juliet Amadeo fought valiantly, but ultimately lost to strong opponents. Doubles matches were similarly exciting: Giorgia Santore and Nainika Lebaka clinched a 7-5, 6-4 win at the 1-spot, while Kathrine Marguilis and Casey Kittredge fell to Westminster in a long battle featuring two tie-breaks: 6-6 (3-7), 6-6 (7-9). Alix Smith and Chloe Acquavella clinched the team win with a definitive 6-0, 6-1 performance. Deerfield also played and won three exhibition matches. It was an outstanding start to a promising season—the team looks forward to its match against Taft on Saturday!
