The team picked up a gritty victory on the road this weekend as the boys traveled to Hoosac to play a talented team of tough competitors. Once again, strong doubles play set the tone as the duos of Max Peh/Ethan Li and Joe Morsman/Blix Salz gained convincing victories early. Jimmy Ueland and Tom Molson teamed up again, and their chemistry was on point as they held on for a victory in a tiebreak.
The singles matches were full of passion, excitement, and high-level play. Joe Morsman locked up the first victory winning in straight sets. He was followed by Max Peh, who fought hard in a grueling match against a steady baseliner from Hoosac. Blix Salz ran into a tough opponent who was hitting the ball well all over the court and dropped his match in straight sets, but he never stopped competing and fought for every point. The other loss came on Ethan Li’s court as he squared off against another hard-hitting baseliner and split sets to eventually fall behind and drop the tiebreaker. The best match of the day was on court one, where Jimmy Ueland played a really talented all-court player from Hoosac. The level of tennis was as high as any Deerfield player has performed and our captain sealed our victory with a dramatic, narrow win in a match tiebreaker. Tom Molson finished the day off in style by coming back to win the second set, forcing a match tie-breaker, and cruising to victory in the final points of the match. It was a marathon match, but the team responded well to adversity and won with grace, determination, and intelligence.
