The weather was beautiful and the support from the crowd was uplifting, but in the end, those positive elements were not enough to help Deerfield edge past Andover. The visitors jumped to an early lead with some strong doubles play. Andover picked up victories on courts two and three, but court one–featuring Jimmy Euland and Brick Johnson–battled back to win their match in impressive form.
The depth and skill of the Andover team was on full display as the match shifted to singles. Each player fought hard for every point, but we continually came up short in big moments against a very skilled and determined opponent. Tom Molson and Joe Morseman did manage to battle back from early deficits to split sets, Tom was bested in a match tiebreaker but Joe secured victory on court six. Blix Salz and Ethan Li also played gritty matches, giving their opponents difficulties at times. However, it was Andover’s day in the end, they played extremely well and came out on top.
