The Deerfield boys JV tennis team (0-2) played their first match in nearly two weeks after the match against Taft on April 16th was canceled, dropping a disappointing 7-0 match to the Eaglebrook School varsity squad. It was a beautiful day for tennis, after some cold and rainy weather, but Deerfield were unable to capitalize on the improving spring weather.
Due to time constraints on Eaglebrook, the matches consisted of 4 singles, 3 doubles, and one doubles exhibition match. The doubles matches were played first, where the #4 team of Nikhil Lebaka ’24 and Preyas Sinha ’24 were the lone bright spot in the exhibition match, winning the 8-game pro set, 8-6. The other doubles pairing didn’t fare nearly as well, with Matias Cushman ’25 and Gabe Zaccheo ’22 losing at #1 3-8. Ashish Sharma ’24 and Andy Chen ’25 at #2 and Theo Lewis ’24 and Eddy Rena ’24 at #3 both lost 1-8.
That left Deerfield needing to win all four singles matches to win the overall match. The singles matches were more competitive, but Eaglebrook swept all four to win the match 7-0. At #1, Cushman lost 4-8, Sharma lost 2-8 at #2, Lewis lost 3-8 at #3, and Finn Knight ’25 lost 0-8 in the final match of the day at #4.
The boys JV tennis team will be back in action on April 23rd, with a home match against Andover at 1 pm, hoping to come away with their first win of the season.
