Deerfield defeated Taft for their first road win of the season by a score of 8-7 in 9 innings. Deerfield led 7-1 at the start of the 6th inning but Taft scored 3 runs in the 6th and 7th inning to tie the game. In a truly bizarre play, Taft had bases loaded, 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning with the score tied 7-7. The Taft batter hit what appeared to be a walk off hit to the left field fence. The Taft runner on first base never touched second base amidst the celebration and LF Tynan Creagh threw the ball into SS Ryan McHugh, who appeared to notice the runner hadn’t touched second, and the Taft runner was called out on a force play, negating the winning run that crossed home plate. After a scoreless 8th inning, McHugh led off the 9th with a double and then scored the winning run on a wild pitch. P Jack Chorske came in to pitch a perfect 9th inning for the save. Lost in the frenzy of the final few innings was SP Kiernan Keller’s outing. He pitched 5 innings and allowed just 3 hits and 1 ER. It was his best outing of the season. 1B Will Murphy led the way at the plate going 2-5 with 3 RBI.
