JV swimming participated in the Nick Whyte Invitational at Eaglebrook, a fast paced meet of sprint events. Several JV swimmers did well in their events. Leading the women, Sophia Knoblock was 5th in the 50 Free, 2nd in the 50 Butterfly and won the 50 Backstroke. She was the 5th place female overall. Max Wang led the Deerfield men swimming five individual events. He was 2nd in the 50 Back and 100 IM, 3rd in the 50 Fly and 50 Free and 5th in the 50 Breaststroke and was the second place male overall.
Additional notable performances included a 4th place finish for Abby Tang in the 50 Fly and 50 Free and a 3rd in the 100 IM, a 5th place finish for Ella Hynds in the 50 Back, a 4th place finish for Elena Zhao in the 50 Breast, and a 4th place finish for Tony He in the 50 Breast. Miu Yatsuka was 2nd in the 50 Breast and 1st in the 50 Free.
Deerfield’s 200 Medley Relay of Tang, He, Knoblock, and Wang was 2nd. The 200 Free Relay of Knoblock, He, Yatsuka, and Wang was the fastest in the past 5 years at 1:54.53 and 2nd overall. The 400 Free Relay of Tang, Zhao, Isabelle Schwartz, and Yatsuka was 3rd.
Deerfield was 3rd overall in the meet. Their final meet is at home on February 23. Their current record is 3-2.
