In the first game after Long Winter Weekend, Deerfield Girls Varsity Hockey traveled to take on Westminster on Wednesday afternoon. In serendipitous fashion, Emma Gurnell (DA ’22, Westy ’21) opened the scoring on the first shift of the game (assists to Sara Ito-Bagshaw ’22 and Sam Olander ’23). Westminster tied the game early in the second period, but Annie Dinges ’24 responded (assists to Olander and Grace Dumond ’22) to put us back up by one heading into the third period. The final frame was our best of the game, and though Westminster was able to tuck a goal in, Dinges scored two goals (the first unassisted, the second from Jackson Kinsler ’22 and Bliss Vernon ’22) to earn the hattrick and lead DA to a 4-2 victory. Lauren Sobczak played well in goal, and Gurnell earned the hard hat for leading the way in terms of energy and intensity. Many thanks to the Olanders for sponsoring dinner on the way home, and to Amanda and Ikuko for getting it all set up!
