On the first Wednesday back from the long winter weekend the boys JV hockey team travelled to Windsor, CT. for a game with the Pelican JVs of Loomis. The game was a choppy affair as both teams had trouble getting their rhythm back from the long weekend. In the end the visiting Doors would come away with a 4-1 win upping their season record to 8-0-1.
Jack Gammage got the game’s first goal halfway through the first period off a nice pass from line mate Will Lodge. Loomis would score an equalizer before the end of the first period knotting the score at 1 apiece.
In the second period Deerfield would get goals from Felix Rockefeller and Will Richards to go up 3-1 after two periods. Will Scharfenberger was his usual steady self between the pipes and he kept Loomis at bay with several second period saves.
In the thirds period Alistair Hunt would score a goal from his position on the blueline when he shot through traffic and found the back of the net for the game’s final tally. Loomis played hard until the final buzzer and outworked Deerfield for stretches of the game as they tried to keep the game within reach. The game puck went to freshman Nick Gold for his hustle and commitment to doing multiple little things right in an effort to help the team. He played very hard for three periods and helped that Gold line come away with several scoring chances.
