Deerfield JV girls basketball played their most thrilling game of the season so far against NMH at home on Saturday, beating NMH 32-30 in overtime.
Both teams played hard throughout the game, with Deerfield focusing on bringing the intensity and working hard to get rebounds. The fast-paced first quarter ended 8-6 to Deerfield, but then NMH fought back and sank a three right before the end of the second quarter to sneak ahead by one point at halftime. The game remained close with each team playing hard, and the third quarter ended 21-20 to NMH. The end of the fourth quarter brought high drama, as Deerfield went ahead by two points with ten seconds to go, but then NMH sank a basket as the buzzer went off to bring the score at full time to 26-26. After an intense four minutes, Mary O’Shea ‘25, who had been aggressively and effectively defending the basket all game, scored the winning basket with ten seconds of overtime left. This was a meaningful victory for Deerfield, showing just how far this team has come since their first game of the season.
