On February 19th, the boy’s thirds team hosted Choate Rosemary Hall in the Class of ’53 gym for a 2 pm tipoff. In a now-familiar scenario, Deerfield got out of the gate slowly and CRH started off the game on a 9-0 run to eventually win the game 42-32. With the loss, Deerfield drops to 2-9 on the season with one away and one home game left on the slate. Deerfield were able to get back into the game after falling behind quickly, thanks to 3-pointers by Justin Ahn ’24 and Jonny Scagel ’25, and only trailed by 1 at the end of the 1st quarter, 14-13. The 2nd quarter was not nearly as productive, as Deerfield were held to only 1 field goal and CRH were able to expand their lead to 7 at the half, 22-15. Although they played well in the 3rd quarter and scored 8 points, Deerfield fell even further behind and trailed by 12 going into the final quarter. In the 4th, they were able to rally and cut the deficit to single digits several times, but eventually ran out of time, losing 42-32. Scagel led Deerfield with 12 points, a season high for him, while Hawk Okpokwasili ’25 scored 7 and MacGregor Hynds ’25 added 6. The team has their final road game of the season on February 23rd, facing the Loomis Chaffee School at 2:45 pm in Windsor, CT.
