In our final Wednesday game of the season we took on a talented and well-coached Northfield Mount Hermon team. The game started out well for us and we managed to keep NMH off balance offensively for most of the half. We looked to take a small lead into the halftime break but some mistakes allowed NMH to tie it up right at the half at 25-25. NMH made some adjustments during the break and came out firing to take the lead quickly into the second half. They stretched their lead to 10 in the first four minutes of the half as we started to get impatient on offense and defense. We took a deep breath with 10 minutes to go and started to claw our way back into the game. With 5 minutes left, we were within 6 and had some momentum. The game hung in the balance for the next few minutes as the lead stayed between 5-7 points. A three pointer and a succession of trips to the free throw line in the last two minutes for NMH put us away though and we found ourselves on the wrong side of the 53-60 score in the end. It was one of our better efforts against a very strong team but just not enough consistency to secure the victory. The highlights were many with great defense being played by the whole team, but particularly by Eddy Rena ‘24, Xavier Aviles ‘24, Xavier Valdez ‘25 and Kiernan Keller ‘22. Kiernan shared high-scoring honors with 11. Max Peh ‘24 contributed 9 as well, but the clear big highlights of the day were the three three-pointers in the first half by James Fealy ‘24 who added another drive to also put in 11 on the day. Our last two games of the season are both Friday night affairs, kicking off with St. Paul’s this Friday and then arch-rival Choate the following week. We’re starting to click as a team and look to end the season with two strong outings.
