Deerfield Girls Hockey opened the season with a 3-1 victory over St. Mark’s. With ten new players on the roster there is still a lot to do to work out the kinks, but overall it was a good first game in terms of energy and effort. Peyton Wierl ‘26 opened the scoring after a pass off the face off from her twin sister Brady ‘26. In the second, Cal Ferraris ‘23 buried a puck after good work from Lauryn Broecker ‘23 and Brady Wierl. Brady then got a goal of her own, with Mia Goetzke ‘24 getting the assist. The third period was sloppy, but all six defensemen played well and Lauren Sobzcak ‘24 was excellent in goal. Goetzke earned the hard hat for her leadership, work ethic and responsible play in all three zones. Next up is Loomis at home on Wednesday! Many thanks to the Giroux family for the bus snacks after the game.
