Deerfield Varsity Hockey hit the road on Saturday to take on BB&N in a rematch of the Large School Championship game from last year. As has become the team’s frustrating habit, we got off to a slow start and BB&N took a 1-0 lead into the second period. Just sixteen seconds in, however, Brady Wierl ‘26 tied the score, firing home a shot off of assists from Peyton Wierl ‘26 and Annie Dinges ‘24. Kaley MacDonald ‘23 then gave us the lead with an absolute snipe (Mia Goetzke ‘24 and Keira Austen ‘26 got the assists). Julia Tamul ‘25 scored in the third off of a deflection from a Bailey Miller ‘24 shot (Brady Wierl also got an assist), and we held on to take the 3-1 victory. MacDonald, Dinges, Cal Ferraris ‘23 and CC Deslauriers ‘23 executed a standout 6 vs. 4 in the final minutes, and Lauren Sobczak ‘24 earned the hard hat with a strong performance in goal. Shout out to Cal Ferraris for playing center for us today, moving up from her usual defense position to help us compensate for injuries and illnesses. Many thanks to the Miller family for the pizza, salad and desserts for the long bus ride home after the game! Next up will be the Cushing Tournament starting on Thursday evening.
