The boys JV hockey team got their season underway on Saturday traveling to Westfield High School for a scrimmage game. The bench was bulging as Deerfield brought 16 forwards, 7 defensemen, and a pair of goalies to get some early season experience.
Coach Pelletier of Westfield always does a great job with his team and we are fortunate to have this option on the schedule every year. We played two halves of 22:30 and were able to get a good look at everyone on the roster as we head into our regular season play next week.
We got two goals from each of our top two lines and consistent play from all seven defensemen and our two goalies. The end result was a 4-1 win, but the game is recorded as a scrimmage.
We’ve had a good opening week of practices and look forward to a big week ahead with three contests. On Wednesday we open the season with a game against neighbor Eaglebrook School. Then on Friday we host Selwyn House from Montreal. Saturday has us traveling to rival Choate for a 1:00 p.m. puck drop.
