Making the long trip on Wednesday, Deerfield traveled to St. Paul’s on Wednesday and came away with a victory, 3-0.
In the first set, Deerfield got out to a good start, pushing to 6-0 and 11-1 leads on strong serving from Loran McGruder ‘24 and Georgia Sackrey ‘23. Our setters, Wuyee Ke ‘26 and Greta Trapp ‘25, did a good job moving the ball around. St. Paul’s was able to tighten up the score, but Deerfield was able to take the set, 25-17.
In the second set, Deerfield hitters rose to the challenge against strong blocking from St. Paul’s, with good placement from Cate Shanahan ‘23, Evie Mokarow ‘24, Evelyn Kunde ‘26, Natalie Meyer ‘23, Georgia Sackrey ‘23, and Harmoni Dobbins ‘26. St. Paul’s did a nice job pushing all the way to the finish, but Deerfield was able to win the set, 25-23.
The third set had a number of service errors from Deerfield, but passing from Zoe Gavros ‘23 and Elle Stearns ‘23 allowed us to get enough sideouts to take the set, 25-20.
Thanks to St. Paul’s for hosting.
We’re looking forward to our next match (and regular-season finale) on Saturday morning when Deerfield kicks off Choate Day at 10am in Wallingford.
